NEWSLETTER – SEPTEMBER 2009

Welcome to our first newsletter of the 2009/2010 sailing season. As I write this, the sun is shining, the Lipton Cup competitors are enjoying sparkling sailing off Cape Town and spring is in the air! All of us here at Yachtmaster Ocean Sailing School are really looking forward to some quality sailing and I’m sure that you are too…

THE NEW LOOK WEBSITE We are very excited to launch the new look YMOS website on 01 September 2009. Not only has the look and feel been given a major revamp, the site itself is much more simple and intuitive to use. Course information is presented much more clearly, and getting information and booking places on our courses is now significantly easier. There is also a very useful links section – those of you who are frustrated by the SA Met Office website can access SA marine weather information quickly and easily through the Weather link in our Links section. We intend the website to reflect your needs, so if you have any suggestions regarding website content, please let us know. The Website is at http://www.yachtmaster.co.za.

FACEBOOK Our Facebook group now has over 80 members. This is where we advertise crew opportunities and anything else which requires a quick response. It also serves as a portal for you to post comments about the school – we are very keen to hear what you think. Why not join? The YMOS group is at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=15257900915.

THE FLEET Both yachts (34 South and Donna Mia) have been down in Cape Town for several weeks now for their annual refit. Both have had extensive overhauls. 34 South has had additional equipment fitted, including extra batteries and an upgrade to the charging system, and has had her coachroof and decks repainted a very elegant pale grey. Donna Mia has had a new compass and new Garmin instruments fitted, and her topsides have been repainted white. Both yachts look fantastic!

COURSES Full details of the course schedule and prices are on the new website. Please contact us (there is an enquiry form on the website) if you require any information.

RYA NEWS The RYA have also launched a new look website, which is much more user friendly than the old one. Among the items of interest is an e-newsletter, details of which can be found at http://www.rya.org.uk/newsevents/enewsletters/Pages/default.aspx, and a new forum, which is at http://www.rya.org.uk/ryaforum/, and which has interesting discussions and details of crew positions and so on. Doubtless the forum will grow rapidly!

CONGRATULATIONS Many congratulations to all the students who sailed or attended shorebased courses with us during 2008/2009. We hope that you enjoyed learning with us as much as we enjoyed teaching you, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Fair winds and full sails.

The YMOSS Team
