Qualifications Principal and Chief Instructor for Yachtmaster Ocean Sailing School
Alex was born in Cape Town and has sailed all his life, starting at RCYC on his grandfather's yacht, "Acushla". He has sailed many classes of dinghies and yachts. He has been involved in sail training for the past twelve years and during that time has put in more time on the water than any other instructor in the Cape. As an engineer he has a clear understanding of sailing principles and is able to convey the information in a clear and understandable way. He has extensive knowledge of rigs, sails, engines, boat electronics and electrics and is an outstanding boat handler. Students attest to his patience and passion as a sailing Instructor. As an Examiner, he has a clear picture of the knowledge and skills that you will need as a Skipper. He has studied the "International Regulations for Preventing Collissions at Sea" and will give you a clear understanding of these rules. You will be given a sound theoretical knowledge and the opportunity to practice collission avoidance in the clear and on RADAR/MARPA. Alex sails "34' South".
