Farr 38 (34' South) PDF Print E-mail

The Farr 38 is well known as the classic design that gained recognition for Bruce Farr as possibly the World’s top yacht designer.  She is a beautiful boat to sail and is the ideal vessel to develop your skills.

34' South is fully equipped, including:

1. A full suit of Sails

The #1 genoa, #2 genoa and #3 jib are set on the forestay in a luff groove.

The headfoil is also a roller furler so that the #2 genoa can be used as a furling sail.

The #4 jib, #5 jib and the storm jib are set on a demountable inner forestay using a hank on system.

This gives you training on all of the different types of headsail systems in use today.

She has four spinnakers and a spinnaker pole which is also good training.

She has a Trysail which is used in heavy weather.

Several fully battened mainsails complete the inventory.

2. A full set of Electronics

including GPS: a Furumo Navigator.
Chartplotters:  Raymarine C80 interfaced with a Fluxgate/gyro heading sensor, Integrated RADAR overlay, Automated Information System overlay and Automated RADAR plotting aid for collission avoidance.
Chartplotters:  Garmin hand held

We will show you how to use these tools properly and you will receive training on all of these which is very valuable experience.

3. A full suite of charts, both electronic and paper. A full suite of Navigation publications.

4. Electrical Power Generation and distribution to support the electronics.

5. A beautiful, seaworthy hull which will take you anywhere in safety and with speed.
She is a pleasure to sail and the best training yacht sailing in Cape waters.
