Welcome to Yachtmaster Sailing School We sail because we are passionate about the sea but we never lose sight of our objective: to provide the best possible instruction, whether you are a beginner or an experienced sailor, in order to assist you in your Professional Sailing Career. Our school was founded in 1990 by Henton Jaaback, and is one of the oldest and most established Sailing Schools in South Africa. The School's Principal, Alex Cousins, has been instructing for over twelve years and during that time he has put in more time on the water than any other instructor in the Cape! Our School is an Internationally Recognised RYA(Royal Yachting Association), MCA(Maritime and Coast Guard Agency) endorsed and SAS (South African Sailing) Training Facility. We offer the full range of RYA and SAS Qualifications as well as a range of short professional courses for use in the Yachting and Super/Mega Yachting Industries. For more Course Information see our Where to Start Page
With us you have the advantage of sailing from two of the most exquisite sites in the Western Cape. Either the Royal Cape Yacht Club in Table Bay, Cape Town with breathtaking views of Table Mountain and Robben Island, a World Heritage site and home to one of the Capes Penguin Colonies; or Club Mykonos near Saldanha Bay, Langebaan with its clear lagoon and natural wildlife thanks to the West Coast National Park. Both locations are great for sailing and Saldanha Bay, Langebaan where your training usually starts is the best training area in South Africa! We pride ourselves on the skill and experience of our Instructors, who are all highly experienced SAS and RYA Yachtmaster Instructors. They are all experts in their subjects who have been and seen it all and are here to pass on that well learnt knowledge. We maintain a high standard on our Yachts and excellent equipment standards, which we ensure through continued annual inspections. They were specifically chosen for their training capabilities in our Seas , they are comfortable, easy to learn on and fun to sail. We carry a full inventory of sails, including spinnakers, roller furlers and storm jibs and the navigation equipment includes latest generation RADAR, MARPA, AIS, GPS and Chartplotters. We do not believe in surprise hidden costs, so we are upfront about what is and isn't included in your course fees, but we do try to provide as much as we can, including: Live-aboard accommodation and 3 Nutritious Meals a Day during the Practical Sailing weeks, all your RYA Practical and Theory course materials (books, packs, charts, Logbook and Colregs), use of all our Navigational Equipment and our foul weather (sailing) gear during your Practical courses, diesel and berthing fees and all your RYA/MCA Course Completion Certificates! We assist you in becoming the most qualified and experienced Sailor in order to find a job in the Yachting and Super/Mega Yachting Industries.
